Flying Probe Test Technician - Assembly

Position Type: Onsite - Full-time [40 hours per week]
Shift Days: Monday - Friday
Shift Hours: First 5:00 am - 1:30 pm, Second Shift 1:30 pm - 10:00 pm
Hourly Rate: $20 - $28 based on experience

 

 

Position Description:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Flying Probe/Test Technician at Hughes Circuits Inc. to support the testing and validation of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) in a fast-paced electronic manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for operating flying probe test equipment, troubleshooting electrical faults, and ensuring products meet quality and functional requirements before shipment.

The test technician is responsible for testing/reworking of PCBAs down to the component level to ensure conformance to established specifications. Ability to use IPC, and ASCII files for programming, read schematics, drawings, and related documents. Ability to use soldering/ test equipment (ie:  soldering irons, HOT AIR rework stations, DMM, Oscilloscope, and Logic Analyzer)

 

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and program flying probe test systems for in-circuit and functional testing of PCBAs
  • Set up and optimize test programs using CAD data, assembly drawings, and BOMs
  • Identify and troubleshoot defects including opens, shorts, polarity issues, missing/incorrect components, and solder defects
  • Interpret schematics, PCB layouts, assembly drawings, and test reports to determine root causes of failures
  • Clearly communicate test failures to assembly, rework, and engineering teams to support timely corrective action
  • Verify reworked assemblies and confirm effectiveness of corrective actions
  • Support first article builds, new product introductions (NPI), and pilot production runs
  • Document test results, defects, and trends within MES and quality systems
  • Assist in improving test coverage, yield, and overall production throughput
  • Maintain compliance with ESD controls, safety protocols, and 5S standards
  • Follow all company policies and procedures
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Able to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in English
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience testing PCBAs in an electronic assembly or manufacturing environments
  • Strong troubleshooting skills related to assembly defects and electrical failures
  • Comfortable working on the production floor in a fast-paced assembly setting
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work effectively in a team environment

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience operating flying probe test equipment
  • Familiarity with SMT and through-hole assembly processes
  • Experience with rework verification and failure analysis feedback loops
  • Basic knowledge of IPC J-STD-001 and/or IPC-A-610 standards for electronic assembly

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration.  The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
